One Simple Step
While we strive to stay ahead of fraudsters who are intent on accessing bank accounts, each of our clients plays an integral role in fraud detection. "You should check your account on a regular basis," advises Bob Hamaker, Leaders Senior VP of Operations. "Once it becomes a habit, it is very easy and simple to do, even on a daily basis. Fraudulant transactions are usually completely out of the ordinary and easy to detect." A current threat is viruses that record keystrokes with the potential to email account information. Leaders employs a multi-layered security approach, including several security programs running in the background when customers bank online. Only trusted computers and networks are granted access. "Monitoring accounts is also critical because fraud is not just electronic," adds Elizabeth Snyder, Leaders Senior VP and Chief Compliance Officer. "It can be paper-based, such as someone attempting to counterfeit a check." Hamaker notes every bank experiences fraud. "Some banks assume they are going to get hit for a certain amount of money annually. At Leaders, we do not. We assume we will have no dollars lost. We are fortunate and proud of our efforts." |
