Out and About: Leaders Bank Community Initiatives

With DuPage County's soaring home ownership costs, living and working in the same community is increasingly difficult.  Many workers, including teachers and police officers, commute lengthy distances because they cannot afford homes near their employers.  Far-reaching effects include higher levels of worker absenteeism and increased traffic congestion.

Homeownership: A Benchmark for Vital Community, a collaborative of communtiy leaders, banks, and nonprofits, strives to expand availability of affordable starter homes in DuPage.  Elizabeth Snyder, Leaders' Senior VP and Chief Compliance Officer, co-chairs the initiative's community outreach group, raising awareness of the affordable housing crisis and encouraging involvement of businesses, organizations, and individuals.

Also, Leaders participates in Hinsdale Community House's bank coalition, which provides financial education to unincorporated, low-income areas of DuPage.  And, at Anne M. Jeans Elementary School, Leaders is working with teachers to customize a financial literacy curriculum for students and parents.

"Leaders Bank is reaching out to the community to tackle challenging issues and improve lives," said Ms. Snyder.  "We believe our direct involvement is making a measurable difference and encouraging others to take positive action."
